Note: This post is less of an analysis/review and more of me just trying to make sense of all the dungeon breaks with Necromancer Main Characters that I’ve been reading lately. Regardless, I hope you enjoy:

There are so many dungeon break comics out now, and consistently I have seen main characters stemming out from the Necromancer Class rather than any other. Solo Leveling, Seoul’s Necromancer Station, Necromancer Survival, Kill the Hero, and I Stole the Number 1 Ranker’s Soul are just a few in the continuously growing list that begin with this premise: dungeon break world + weak necromancer class/skill + time = Super Saiyan Necromancer soon enough.

Even works where the MC does not have a necromancer class or skill in a Dungeon Break world usually end up with some death-related skill quickly after the story starts. There are exceptions, but there are enough necromancing main characters out there for it to be considered a trope.

In a world filled with dungeons and danger at every turn, it’s important to have a diverse skill set to survive, and I suppose that being able to raise the dead would be a great advantage given how many people die during dungeon breaks. With it, you have a diverse skill set too, such as the ability to communicate with and/or control the dead. This could let you gather information, create a protection team or cannon fodder. Sometimes necromancers even gain additional abilities or their summons do, allowing them to create team supports, such as healers and tanks. The genre is known for its focus on action and adventure, with elements of fantasy, power-leveling, and battles, and seems to work well for this class.

Of course, there are some risks associated with necromancy. The dead don’t always obey your commands, or they may have their own agendas that could put you in danger. There’s always the risk of angering the gods or other powerful entities by meddling with the natural order of things. However, that really depends on the author and what they make of the story. Right now, it seems to be that necromancy skills can be an invaluable asset in a dungeon break world.

It’s kind of fun to read and interesting to see the many different ways the creators approach the use of such skills in their unique settings, don’t you think?
