I love vampire stories, but I only love a certain type of vampire, one that is regal and opulent. The kind that preferably lives in a huge castle or mansion, wearing clothes of nobility, and having a dignified air about them. A classic depiction, certainly, but one that has stood the test of time for a reason. So, it was with great surprise when I saw someone on Twitter recommend an anime with this exact type of vampire, Delico’s Nursery.

However it doesn’t stop there! These are vampires taking care of their children while trying to solve a murder mystery and, needless to say, my interest was piqued so I had to check it out.

The art style grabbed my attention immediately. It’s rough around the edges and has a sketched look to the eyes and other features. Meanwhile, there’s so much detail in the backgrounds. Some parts look like it was painted with broad strokes, while other parts have black detailing, and it’s all blended together to contrast the moving characters in the foreground, adding clarity and focus to the characters.

As much as I love the art here I will say that the C.G. horses were quite jarring as they felt out of place. Not that there isn’t C.G. anywhere else in the anime, just that it’s usually better incorporated within the show.

That aside, the story is just getting started, of course, but it went along great for the first episode. The pacing was nice, not too fast and not too slow either. Also, the characters are easily distinguishable from each other, even though three of them have the exact same parenting style (leave it to the nannies!).

Speaking of characters, I love the designs and personalities! Especially Gerhard’s, with his voluminous golden locks and haughty attitude, he quickly became my favorite out of the bunch. Though, all of them have their qualities that make them worth watching. I’m looking forward to seeing how he progresses and potentially grows throughout the rest of the season.

I’m excited to see the leading vampires’ funny interactions with their children being juxtaposed against a murder mystery that is putting their species in danger. If you haven’t watched it yet, I would recommend you give it a shot! I will definitely be keeping up with Delico’s Nursery this season!

Thank you for reading, if you have watched Delico’s Nursery, comment below telling me what you think of it so far!
