Recommended Watch: Behind The Animation of Nightmare Of The Wolf

By: Peggy Sue Wood | @pswediting

The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf released on Netflix last August and was a fantastic animation to go along with The Witcher show. I, personally, loved it and felt it blended the fantastical nature of magic and story better than the live-action show. Animation really is a great form to adapt such stories and can do a lot more than what special effects allows for yet.

Since we’re so close to the holidays now and I have a big post planned next weekend, this week I’m taking it a little easy and doing a “Recommended Watch” post. As such, I recommend watching not just the movie again for the wintery-aesthetic to go along with the season, but also the two short looks provided by Netflix at what went behind the animation:

1. The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf | Behind The Animation with Studio Mir

2. The Witcher: WitcherCon | Nightmare of the Wolf: Strokes of Genius

They provide insight into the design of the characters and show, something I’ve been learning more about in my animation certification program. It’s a short look, fun to watch, and cinematic, which is why I’m recommending them.

Happy Holidays, y’all. And see you next week with a post on Requiem of the Rose King.

Okay–until class last Wednesday I had 1. completely forgotten I scheduled this to post last weekend & 2. had no idea the second season released Friday… I mean, go me on that luck, but also I need to be better about checking in on my Netflix watch list.
