I’m calling it, Eleanora Hillrose from Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I’m Not the Demon Lord is #BestGirl for 2024. Spoiler warning! If you have not seen this series yet, I recommend you do before continuing because not much context will be explained here. You have been warned.

Eleanora is a true gem among her rivals and contenders. In the work itself she is shown to have a friendly demeanor that is both classy and relatable. As a young girl in a powerful position, surrounded by “yes men,” she does her best to stay relatively grounded and proves to be one of the most sincere and good-natured people in the entire series, putting her in brighter contrast than even Alicia Ehnleit, the original protagonist of the series’s game, as her automatic kindness towards Yumiella adds depth and dynamism to her character.

Much like the royal family’s king and queen who view Yumiella as a person and not just an asset or potential enemy, Eleanora is quick to assess and accept Yumiella as one of her friends. Her kind gestures towards Yumiella speak volumes about her character and dispel any notions of intentional villainy. Her pursuit of true love and belief in fairy tale romance are evident in her affectionate yet respectful crush on Edwin. Despite its one-sided nature, her approach is marked by sincerity rather than overbearing or malicious intent, complemented by her infectious energy and cheerful disposition.

Eleanora’s readiness to accept Yumiella’s assurances and her warm embrace of Ryu, the cute black dragon, further illustrate her admirable qualities. In every scene, she injects life and excitement with her confidence, upbeat nature, and unwavering compassion, even in the face of personal betrayal from her beloved fiancé and treacherous father. Her resilience and adaptability stand as testaments to her character.

It is clear, to me and hopefully now to you, that Eleanora’s charming pure heart make her an absolute standout among her contenders. As we’re close to halfway through the year already, I feel it may be a little early to declare it but can’t see this being wrong. She’s a lovable blonde who proves that sometimes, the best characters come in the most unexpected packages (like a low-level villainess). I believe she is, and will remain, #BestGirl in 2024.
