Scheduling Update 2024 Amendment

Hello, Everyone!

In our last scheduling update, I mentioned switching to a bi-weekly schedule. However, on a personal note, I have some updates to share that may mean I no longer need to switch to a bi-weekly schedule.

In our last announcement, linked here, I noted that I had been accepted to the University of Oregon (UO) for Fall 2024. It was, as of last month and basically until a week ago, my set plan for the Fall, but I recently received my financial aid offer and have some reservations about the program as a result. Other programs I’ve been admitted to offered higher scholarships and grants. While I plan to negotiate with UO’s financial aid office, this situation has made me reconsider my choice.

Some of the other programs I was accepted into include NYU’s publishing program (an MS degree), a counseling program, and library science degree. Any of these options would allow me to diversify the departments I can teach in over the next year or two while still working towards my ultimate goal of a PhD.

While attending UO is still an option, the financial aid offer was much lower than expected. Given that I already teach, hold an MA, and am becoming established in my field, I’m not convinced that taking out significant loans for another graduate program is worth it at this time. Particularly when, as mentioned, I can pursue other options. Perhaps before I started teaching I would have felt differently, but now it doesn’t seem like the best decision.

ANYWAY, I’m still thinking things over, but as of literally this week, UO is no longer my set-in-stone plans for the coming fall. As such, I’ve been drafting extensively since then, and it seems I won’t need to make that change my schedule after all, which is great! That’s about it! Thanks for reading!
