If you’re looking for a fascinating academic exploration of Pokémon, I highly recommend checking out “GOTTA CATCH ‘EM ALL: Capitalism, The War Machine, and the Pokémon Trainer” by Davin Heckman. It appears to be an “older” Internet text, published I-don’t-know-when, that offers a deep dive into the cultural significance of Pokémon and explores different features of the game and its worldbuilding. It also argues the impact of this media and broader impact on pop culture based on its historical and modern influences. This read, which I have sampled a few pages from, has been an interesting one in terms of examining the gaming, media, and culture of Pokémon to a degree that reminds me a bit of how one of my coworkers who got his MA in Communications talks about media. Definitely an interesting read if you have the time and interest, which you can view here: http://rhizomes.net/issue5/poke/pokemon.html#:~:text=Welcome%20to%20the%20world%20of,inhabited%20by%20creatures%20called%20pok%C3%A9mon!

Thanks for the heads up! I’m always looking for interesting deep dives into anime and culture, and this sounds right up my alley. It’s interesting that Pokemon is so iconic to modern culture that it actually is being studied. I bet one day there will be history books that talk about the early 2000’s and will mention Pokemon!
