On 16 June 2026, my family made the difficult decision to say goodbye to our beloved cat, Mr. Butters.

The devastation of losing him is difficult to put into words. Just a few months earlier, his veterinarian had told us that he would likely be with us for several more years. A relatively healthy senior cat with some underlying conditions, but solid. Then, at the end of May, he became severely constipated, and the prognosis suddenly shifted from years to months. Soon, it became days. We found ourselves bringing him in once or twice a week just to relieve his discomfort.

It never truly improved, regardless of the treatments or medications or care.

He was not going to recover.

As mid-June approached, our veterinarian began discussing his quality of life and the reality that continuing treatment would likely only prolong his suffering weighed heavily on our minds. We asked about alternatives we had read up on online. Our vet said she could recommended seeing a specialist, but we were told that doing so would probably offer little benefit beyond extending his already painful condition.

So, we made the decision.

On his final night, I slept beside him with his paw resting in my hand or gently cupping his face. The next morning, I carried him outside for one last walk and held him in bed as he slept most of the morning with pain killers, trying desperately to keep myself from breaking down.

The weeks since his passing have been difficult. Grief has a strange way of lingering in ordinary moments, and I have mostly been trying to preserve enough energy to meet my work obligations and commitments.

Mr. Butters was with me for nearly fifteen years. He was a constant companion through countless changes, milestones, and difficult periods in my life. Losing him has left an emptiness that I am still learning to live with.

Last Saturday, I couldn’t bring myself to post and, after talking about this and other things happening in life with Krow and Kathy, given how everyone is going through a lot (Krow is moving, Kathy is starting a new job, and so on), we’ve decided to put The Anime View on a brief hiatus for the next month or so.

We have a few posts for July that we are planning to put out, but we’ll be a little less consistent until probably August or September as we settle into our new normals.
